A Tranquil and Comfortable Stay
Futen (Futian) Washe House Villa 福田瓦舍民宿 at Miaoli County, Sanyi Township
When we arrived, we were first greeted by a “fierce” barking dog, which we later learned that it was harmless – a dog with bark but no bite. It was named “小多- Xiao Duo”. We actually grew to love it as it would always nestle itself below the table by our legs when we had breakfast.
The owner Mr Chen (陈大哥) welcomed us warmly and led us into the minsu for registration. He then requested our driver to drive us to Sheng Xing Train Station (勝兴车站) for dinner. Mr Chen also volunteered to fetch us back after dinner, just asked the restaurant to give him a call when we were finished. We had a Hakka dinner at a popular restaurant called 勝兴客栈, with a history of 10 years.
After returning to the minsu after dinner, we consulted Mr Chen for advice on sight-seeing plans for next day. He recommended for us to book a driver to bring us to LongTeng Broken Bridge (龍騰斷橋) first before proceeding to our next minsu near Flying Cow Ranch. However, the driver he recommended quoted us a price that was out of our budget, so we asked Mr Chen whether he could let us hitch a ride (搭便车) to LongTeng Broken Bridge, then the driver would meet us there, saving some travelling costs. Mr Chen agreed after some thought, and we were glad that he was willing to help us. The next day, after he fetched us to LongTeng Broken Bridge, he even alighted from his car and volunteered to help us take a group photo with the bridge. We really appreciated the kind gesture.
The room we booked was a simple double room called 居家單床二人房 which costed NT$1600. We paid a deposit and processing fee via paypal to secure the room. We like its website as it has very thorough information, if you are able to read Chinese. The whole minsu was three storeys high, and the accommodation area was on the 2nd and 3rd floor, so we had to carry our luggage up a flight of stairs. Luckily, our room was located on the 2nd floor, so no need to climb further. Our room was surprisingly spacious, comfortable and clean. The overall feeling was like we were staying in one of the rooms in a bungalow house, with a common living area right outside our room. Slippers were provided. Bath liquid, shampoo and hand towels were also provided, but you have to bring your own towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste. If you need hot water, it’s on the 3rd floor. There’s hairdryer, but I always make it a habit to bring my own for hygiene purposes. Bed was comfortable, not hard.
What we loved most was the surroundings. It’s very peaceful and quiet, and the tranquility made us feel relaxed and safe. Mr Chen led us on a short tour of the surroundings, and there were two ponds, one with ducks and another with fishes which we could feed. The location of the minsu was between Sheng Xing Train Station (勝兴车站) and LongTeng Broken Bridge (龍騰斷橋), but nearer LongTeng. So it’s very convenient to visit these two attractions. The estimated taxi fare from Sanyi TRA Station to Futen Minsu was NT$250.
The interior design of the reception and breakfast area was cozy and homely, with the aroma of breakfast drifting to us when we entered in the morning. Breakfast was hearty. We had sandwich, bun, fruits, coffee/tea, hot milk, fruit juice, and even desserts. Portion was just nice for us.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return again if we need accommodation around Sanyi, Miaoli.
