A Trulyy Awful experience!
- The hotel is in a scruffy and run-down part of Udaipur and, in contrast to all of the other hotels that we stayed at in India, there was no obvious security presence, which made it feel very unsafe. Huge piles of rubbish could be seen from the windows of our room (307).
- The rooms were dirty and dilapidated, with exposed/unfinished plaster, broken electrics, filthy windows and poor decoration. Our fridge did not work at all, and neither did the replacement fridge (which was also very soiled).
- There was no soundproofing in the hotel, so you could hear every noise from the corridor. There was a large party of school children staying there, which made the noise situation even worse.
- The downstairs restaurant (where we had dinner) was like a school canteen, with drab decoration and limited choice (the food itself was fine though).
- The upstairs restaurant area (where we had breakfast) was nicer, but the food was basic and largely cold.
- The bar was out of stock for most items. Many of the drinks that were actually in stock were warm, when they should have been refrigerated.
- There were signs in the bar asking patrons to refrain from drug taking (not an unreasonable ask, but we’ve never seen a sign like that in any other hotel that we’ve stayed in).
- Reception were unable to take payment for the drinks for many hours due to a card machine breakdown.
- The pool area was dilapidated, and there were a number of men hanging round on the sun loungers after dark (possibly the hotel staff, but it was still unnerving).
We put in an emergency call to our tour operator and were thankfully moved to another hotel the next night!
I am sure that the hotel will respond to refute my points, and to suggest that my review is out of line with the many positive reviews that they have received, but it is clear to see that many of these reviews are from one-time reviewers with generic usernames. If you look at my own review profile, you will see that I tend to give 4 or 5 star reviews – giving a 1 star review is very rare. The 1 star belongs to the staff, who were very gracious in dealing with a group of people who were clearly unhappy to be in their hotel.
So, in short, avoid this hotel at all costs!
