Nice hotel, but definitely some glitches
On the other hand, parking is atrocious. We were there during what I have to assume is shoulder season at best and their parking was full. The valets suggested two other parking lots in the area, also full and we ended up in street parking that was available on a Saturday night but would not be available during weekdays. Not sure that there is anything that the hotel can do about this but be warned that you may have no place within walking distance to park your car.
Perhaps more importantly, service at the front desk was questionable at best and that is something the hotel can do something about. I checked in and asked about parking and was directed to the valets. Was handed the keys for room 309. Went back out, managed to find a place to park as noted above. When I returned, headed into the elevator, pressed the key for 3rd floor. Doors open, all there is is meeting rooms and the spa, if I recall correctly. Also a button for 3R, maybe the rooms are out the back of the elevator. Nope, that button doesn't work. Back down to the desk. Waited behind another couple checking in, they receive the keys and head off to the elevator. I ask how I get to my room? Desk associate says, oh, let me show you because I just sent another couple to their room with no explanation. Take us back to the elevator, presses button for floor 2?! We get off on floor 2, go across a pedway, through two sets of fire doors to find another elevator in the other building. press floor 3 (other couple floor 5) and there is our room. Not sure how the desk attendant expected people who have never been to their hotel to know to go to the second floor, cross to the other building and then up with no explanation whatsoever.

Pros and Cons
Cons: the front desk people are very unwelcoming and unfriendly. I was surprised upon check-in especially considering how nice the people in Newfoundland are. They missed cleaning our room twice over a five day stay. The first time I called down before dinner and was told it will happen while we go out for dinner. Back after dinner 3 hrs later and still not done. Then they said staff left for the day. They said we used the do not disturb earlier in the day. It was on at 8:30 am for breakfast and it was off the door by 10:30 am when we left the room. No apology. The second time it happened they said you have to request daily cleaning or it’s every 2-3 days. Different day, different story. The only consistency is the lack of apology or giving a care. When we checked out, they didn’t ask about our stay or make any effort to speak to us. I asked to review our bill before she checked us out and she just went ahead and charged the visa and then gave us the printed invoice. Very rude.

Still a great hotel!
Cons: Surprisingly the pillows in the beds are extremely uncomfortable.
The complimentary breakfast needs attention. The night before we were told there was no seating left for the morning but that we could have it delivered by room service. In the morning I phoned to request room service. I was told they were very busy and I was asked to phone back in 15-20 minutes. I called again at that time and after being put on hold again I was told that it would be another hour. This was at 10 AM. Breakfast ends at 11 AM. I asked if I could just go down and get the breakfast. They said sure that was no problem. I went down to wait for the breakfast to be prepared and while I was waiting I saw at least 4-5 people come to the restaurant at different times and be told there was no seating BUT they were welcome to sit at the bar and eat there. At no time was this ever mentioned to me. Not the night before, not in the two morning phone calls, and not while I sat there at the bar waiting for my breakfast to be prepared so I could bring it to the room.

Fun 2 night stay
We dined at both restaurants and thought the food and service was good. It was fun to go up to Moxy’s on the 8th floor for a beverage. It’s an easy walk to Water street shops and restaurants. I would stay here again if travelling to St. John’s.
